Samurai with a Gun - Terrific Osaka portrait of an actor as a young samurai holding a gun. He looks over his shoulder with eyes wide, his lips tightly pressed together, his hair pulled back into a thick topknot tied with white cord. He wears an elegant violet colored kimono patterned with colorful floral medallions and flowing water over a red under robe trimmed with a blue collar. Pine branches rendered in fold calligraphic line work provide a backdrop against a dark gray night sky. The text block above takes the form of a scroll unrolling, with delicate cloth embossing and softly shaded bands in green and rust. A handsome design by this leading Osaka artist in a rare oban format.
