Aibara Esuke Munefusa Seizing a Half-naked Ruffian by the Throat

Series; Mirror of the Faithful Samurai and Loyal Retainers, 1848

Mirror of the Faithful Samurai and Loyal Retainers - Kuniyoshi's "Mirror of the Faithful Samurai and Loyal Retainers" (Gishi chushin kagami) is one of twelve Chushingura series he designed. Each print features one of the famous 47 ronin, accompanied by text. The title cartouche is edged with the black and white dogtooth border associated with the ronin, and the circular inverted comma crest of Oishi Yuranosuke, the leader of the samurai. This series is much less well-known that Kuniyoshi's most popular ronin series, "Seichu gishiden." We rarely come across these designs, so if they appeal to you, bid now!

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Stitching holes at one side from previous binding, a few wormholes, repaired. Toning, soiling, creasing, and rubbing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
