Segawa Roko IV as Yoshibei's Wife Koume, 1810

Comments - Nice kabuki portrait of Segawa Roko IV as Koume, the wife of the otokodate or street knight Ume no Yoshibei in a scene from the play "Suda no Haru Geisha Katagi." She stands at the edge of a river, holding a paper lantern out in her extended hand, an angry expression on her face. She wears a striped rust colored kimono over a red under robe, tied with a black obi and a narrow green tie-dyed sash. Her hair is pulled back into a sleek bun with wings at the sides, adorned with a comb and hairpins. A handsome design.

Artist - Toyokuni I (1769 - 1825)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 7/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Vertical fold near left edge. Losses, a few wormholes, tears at edges, repaired. Creasing, slight toning and soiling. Please see photos for details.
