Otokodate under a Full Moon

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of a young otokodate or street knight standing among the autumn grasses under a glowing full moon. He smiles sweetly as he looks over his shoulder, seeming very young indeed. He wears a black kimono with a bold pattern of interlocking links of the shoulders and plovers in flight over a red under robe with a light blue collar. He is armed with a single sword, and holds a shakuhachi flute, which could be used as a weapon. A great design, nicely detailed with burnishing in the black kimono and fine line work in the hair.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 10"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Tape remnants on reverse at top corners from previous mounting. Stitching holes at right edge from previous binding, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases and small stains. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
