Ichimura Kakitsu IV as Kampei, 1864

Comments - Handsome portrait of Ichimura Kakitsu IV as Kampei in the famous kabuki drama about the 47 ronin, "Kanadehon Chushingura." While out hunting for wild boar near the Yamazaki Highway one night, Kampei hears a noise, and mistaking it for an animal, shoots. Here, lifts his hat above his head as he looks up with a grimace, after realizing that he has shot a human, not a boar. He carries his gun over his shoulder and wears a straw raincoat over his plaid kimono. An expressive figure and a nicely composed design.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 9 1/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Stitching holes at left edge from previous binding, most repaired. Toning, creasing, slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
