Young Prince Genji, 1853

Comments - Handsome portrait of the young Prince Genji in an elegant interior, smiling down at he matron kneeling on the floor nearby. His coat is shaded from bright to lighter blue, with a design of maple leaves, grasses, and butterflies, worn over a black and blue checked kimono. He holds a sword in one hand, his other held to his chest beneath his sleeve. The room opens onto a beautiful garden with a small waterfall cascading into a pond and steps leading down a rocky hillside to a stone lantern at the water's edge. The verandah railing and wall panel at left feature tortoiseshell bamboo. A nicely detailed setting.

Image Size - 14 1/2" x 9 7/8" + margins as shown
