Comments - Fantastic view of the harbor at Shinagawa in the early morning as three large foreign ships steam into port, their sails furled. Colorful flags and pennants flutter from the boats, white waves splashing against their bows. Across the foreground, a daimyo's procession makes its way through a street lined with closed teahouses and shops, with tall feathery standards and fringed banners flying above the rooftops. Small boats with what look like striped canopies wait at the water's edge at lower left, perhaps to welcome the arrival of the ships. Cranes fly overhead, a lucky sign, and boats are massed together in the distance at left as the red sun begins to creep over the horizon. A terrific image and a rare depiction of Western ships, beautifully colored and detailed.

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. A few holes and thinning spots, small C-shaped tear, repaired. Slight soiling and rippling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
