Tomoe Gozen Pulling a Samurai's Ear, circa 1843

Comments - Interesting scene of the famous woman warrior Tomoe gozen pulling the ear of the samurai Nagase Hangan, who sprawls on the ground, his long pants trapped beneath a fallen stone marker so that he can't get away. The beauty giggles with her hand held to her chin, amused at the man's predicament. At left, Tezuka Taro Mitsumori scowls angrily as he watches, lifting the hems of his own pants. At right, the young warrior Kiso Yoshinaka and Lady Yamabuki look into the garden from a room. Yoshinaka stares out the window with a tight-lipped frown, his hair pulled back into a thick upright topknot tied with cord. The beauty snickers into her sleeve as she watches, holding a short sword upright. A stone step leads into the courtyard, enclosed by a bamboo fence, with trees framing a view of the evening sky. Nice expressive figures in a well-detailed setting.
