Buddha Festival - Wonderful depiction of the ladies of Chiyoda Palace celebrating the birth of Buddha. At right, one of the beauties kneels before an altar with a small statue of Buddha pointing toward heaven, her hands clasped in prayer, while others watch the activities in the garden from a spacious verandah. A beautifully detailed print with touches of embossing in the white kimono trim, burnishing on the black finials on the verandah posts, and soft shading in the background.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 28 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, two panels backed with paper. Thinning and slight separation at ends of vertical folds in two panels, losses at edges, repaired. Toning, soiling, slight rubbing, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
