Comments - Lovely triptych depicting the wives of the fifteen shoguns of the Tokugawa Shogunate. The beauties are shown engaged in a variety of activities. At lower right, a woman in an iris patterned kimono prepares to write a verse on a poem slip, a brush in her hand, while the young woman seated next to her unrolls a scroll. A few of the women read books, while another takes part in a tea ceremony, dipping water from a kettle atop a brazier to make a cup of tea. Lovely detail and color in the elegant robes, including delicate embossing in the white kimono trim and touches of burnishing. The pale yellow background features an allover embossed texture, with a confetti-like pattern. A very attractive design.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 14" x 28 5/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Vertical fold in left panel. Thinning at edge, a few small holes, repaired. Toning, slight soiling, a few creases, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
