Seven Lucky Gods Handing out Daruma Dolls, 1867

Comments - Terrific depiction of a New Year's Day celebration with the Seven Lucky Gods handing out Daruma dolls from a tiered display at left. People crowd around the gods to receive the dolls, images of Daruma, the founder of Buddhism, which bring good luck. In the foreground, the man in the center carries a branch over his shoulder decorated with poem slips and symbols such as a target with an arrow through it, a mask, and a magic mallet. The two women flanking him smile at him happily, and another fellow carries an enormous doll over his shoulder at right, a big grin on his face. A fantastic design filled with lively color and detail.

Artist - Yoshiiku (1833 - 1904)

Image Size - 28 1/2" x 14 1/4"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three separate panels. Some rubbing and soiling at edges. A few losses and small holes repaired when backed. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
