Army Attacking Rebels

Series; Battling the Mobs in Kagoshima, 1877

Army Attacking Rebels - Dramatic scene from the Satsuma Rebellion of Imperial Army troops fighting rebel samurai in Kagoshima. At left, two soldiers rush forward to attack a samurai on horseback, draws his sword back above his head to counter their attack as his horse rears. Another rebel at right holds a gun, and behind him, his compatriots fire weapons at the approaching troops. Clouds of smoke fill the air, with trees in gray silhouette against the evening sky. A great image from a series we have never come across before.
