Yorikane and Masaoka, 1855

Comments - Terrific kabuki double portrait featuring actors in the roles of the nobleman Yorikane and the nursemaid, Masaoka, who is charged with carrying for his young son and heir. He looks down at her with a rather astonished expression, his mouth agape. He holds an elegant folding fan decorated with pine, plum blossoms, and bamboo, a trio known as the "friends of winter." Masaoka grins up at him as she pulls up the collar of her outer kimono. The portrait takes the format of an oval target pierced by an arrow. A striking design with embossed detail in the fan and white kimono trim.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 3/4" + margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Small hole, small tear at edge, repaired. Light toning, slight soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
