Scene of the Temporary Quarters of the New Yoshiwara

Comments - Lovely scene of courtesans inside a teahouse in the temporary quarters of the New Yoshiwara. In the center, a young boy delivers a letter to a beauty in a black kimono, who reaches out for it with a smile. Her companion at right leans forward with an eager expression, holding a roll of tissues to her chin. She wears a tan kimono patterned with a flower cart, tied with a red orange brocade obi, her hair adorned with many decorative hairpins and combs. The beauty at left relaxes on the window seat, her knees pulled up next to her. The room overlooks the rooftops of the teahouse and shops below, with a view of boats on the Sumida River beyond. Along the distant shore, cherry trees with white blossoms stand out against the rosy orange horizon. A charming design with wonderful detail.
