The series represents a further development of Hiroshige's landscape print design, including some of his most modern compositions.
Taisho era Reprints - When increased Western traffic in Japan increased demand for Edo era masterworks, some of the best print publishers in Tokyo embarked on production of some of the finest woodblock reproductions ever made. Following the traditions and methods of the Edo era, the prints were crafted with great care and the utmost attention to detail, masterfully reproducing color, linework and detail.
Not all of these great publishing houses survived, but their legacy carries on through these fine woodblock reprints. Each print from this group of Hiroshige's 60-odd provinces bears an embossed seal from an unknown publisher.
