Raising Silkworms

Comments - Interesting print from a series depicting the stages involved in sericulture, the ancient art of producing silk. At lower right, a beauty uses a sickle to strip smaller leafy branches off a mulberry branch. Her companion at left kneels next to a basket of mulberry leaves, which the silkworms can be seen eating on the trays at left. Behind them, a woman leads a horse carrying a fresh load of mulberry branches to feed the silkworms. A handsome design, nicely detailed.

Artist - Kunisada III (1848 - 1920)

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 9 3/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Backed with paper. A few small wormholes, repaired with backing. Slight soiling and rubbing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
