Magome by Nishijima (born 1945)

Original Nishijima (born 1945) Japanese Woodblock Print
Magome

Series; Sixty-nine Stations of the Kiso Kaido
From a Tokyo Contemporary Collection

Katsuyuki Nishijima - Kyoto artist Katsuyuki Nishijima is known for his beautiful contemporary woodblock prints in the sosaku hanga tradition, designing, carving, and printing each block himself. Inspired by the beauty of Japan, Nishijima illustrates traditional inns and quiet streets, glorious sunsets and dusky evenings, spring blossoms and summer fields. These lovely prints capture the charm of traditional Japanese buildings and landscapes, evoking a romantic view of old Japan yet with a distinctly modern artistic sensibility. These limited edition prints are pencil signed and numbered by the artist in the lower margin. A wonderful choice for the modern collector, they also make striking framed displays.

A Fuji Arts Estate Feature - This print is from a beautiful collection of Meiji designs recently purchased from a Tokyo estate. The collection was outstanding and an exciting find. These print subjects are extremely popular with collectors; rare beauties, ghosts, warriors and ancient tales. The printing quality is top notch and the prints beautifully preserved. This astute Japanese collector focused on the most interesting designs and insisted that the prints were finely printed and in good condition. We’ll be offering this fantastic estate group over the next few weeks. Watch for the subtitle "Fine Tokyo Meiji collection" and enjoy the prints as the offerings unfold this month!
