Sun of Advancement: Bando Hikosaburo as Hashiba Hideyoshi

Series; Seven Brilliant Stars, 1876

Sun of Advancement: Bando Hikosaburo as Hashiba Hideyoshi - Terrific kabuki portrait of Bando Hikosaburo as the great daimyo and general Hashiba Hideyoshi, the future Toyotomi Hideyoshi. He stares ahead with a displeased expression, his lips tightly pressed together and brows furrowed. He wears a black robe with a beautiful burnished pattern over layers of embossed white under robes. His tall court cap is tied under his chin with purple tasseled cords. The top of the hat rises above the edge of the deep red background of the inset, a nice touch adding a sense of depth. The background features a red sun sinking beneath the horizon, radiating orange rays of light into the darkening evening sky. Beautifully printed and detailed with additional burnishing in the cap, an embossed line along the side of the nose, and fine bokashi shading. A great design from a rare series we've never offered before.
