Series; Set of Views of Fuji from Edo in Iroha Order, 1852

Mt. Fuji Seen from Gojo Bridge: Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Maruami Goro - Great portrait of Nakayama Bungoro as the samurai Akuemon from a series pairing kabuki actors with views of Mt. Fuji from Edo. He grimaces angrily, his face contorted with rage and his hand thrown open before him. He wears a beautiful black coat and matching kimono patterned with red and blue peonies, his enormous frame filling the page. The inset above shows a beauty and a servant walking into the wind with tissues scattering in the air with the breeze, and Mt. Fuji rising in the distance beyond grassy plains. A fine expressive figure, nicely composed and colored.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 9 7/8" x 13 7/8"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. A few small holes repaired from reverse. Some rubbing and soiling. Some small stains. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
