Birds, 1847 - 1852 - Lovely triptych of three elegant beauties enjoying a sea breeze from a verandah overlooking the shore. At left, a young woman kneels at the railing, gesturing towards a cuckoo flying through the sky. Her companion in the center smiles as she watches the bird, one hand resting on a wooden post. The beauty at right kneels at a low lacquer table spread with a book and writing equipment, a brush in hand. Lanterns decorated with colorful beads and tassels frame the scene. A beautiful image of upper-class women at leisure, nicely detailed.
