Beauty Playing the Kokyu, 1869

Comments - Attractive scene of beauties in the upper room of a teahouse, the woman at right playing a kokyo, an instrument similar to a shamisen but played upright with a bow. She wears a matching blue outer robe and kimono bordered with colorful chrysanthemums and trimmed with red tie-dyed collars. The room looks out over blossoming cherry trees and other teahouses, with a bridge leading to an island in the harbor and the Japanese flag flying in the distance. A charming subject, nicely detailed with embossing in the white kimono collars.

Artist - Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 9 1/4" + top margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Light vertical centerfold, slight toning and soiling, slight creasing and rubbing, faint stain at edge. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
