Series; Japanese and Chinese Comparisons for the Chapters of Genji, 1855 - 1856

Wakana no jo, Chapter 34: Hachimantaro Yoshiie Pursuing Abe no Sadato - Great depiction of Hachimantaro Yoshiie pursuing Abe not Sadato through the countryside on horseback. Sadato looks back over his shoulder with an angry grimace as his horse gallops along, gripping the reins tightly. He wears a fine suit of armor and a horned battle helmet topped with a leafy crest. Approaching the crest of the rocky peak at left, Yoshiie, know for his archery skills, puts an arrow to the string to fire at his enemy. Pine trees frame the darkening sky behind them. A nice bold image from this rarely seen series pairing warriors with chapters from the beloved "Tale of Genji."
