Hirose Kazuma, 1874

Series; New Tales of Honor (Meiyo Shindan)

Hirose Kazuma, 1874 - Fantastic, if rather gory, depiction of Hirose Kazuma from a series done for the newspaper "Meiyo Shindan" focusing on heroes from the recent civil wars leading up to the Meiji Restoration. The bloodied hero is shown fighting at the Sakuradamon gate at Edo Castle, gripping his sword above his head with both hands as overturned objects fly through the air under a heavy snowfall. A retainer of Li Naosuke, the daimyo of Hikone, Kazuma was known for his martial arts skills. A dramatic and memorable portrait.

Image Size - 9 5/8" x 14 1/4" + margins as shown
