Beauties Crossing a Bridge

Comments - Attractive scene from everyday life of three beauties crossing a bridge as evening falls. The woman at left wears a tie-dyed kimono and carries a flat fan decorated with a swallow and a poem slip. A young girl walks ahead of her holding a toy palanquin and bearers dangling from a slender bamboo pole over her shoulder. At right, a mother gives her young child a ride on her back, the boy reaching eagerly for a paper lantern held out by the woman in front of him. She wears a gray kimono with a striking pattern of large blue hawks and white birds. The river is filled with pleasure boats, and teahouses line the opposite shore. A charming design, nicely detailed.
