Comments - Wonderful triptych depicting the great general Kusunoki Masashige and his wife escaping from his enemies, stopping for a brief rest in the countryside. The beauty lifts a blind to peer out of the palanquin she has been riding in, her husband standing alongside as his two retainers point to men approaching across a small stream. Beautifully drawn with delicate line work and fine detail, including fine cloth embossing in the white pants and touches of metallic silver pigment in the beauty's kimono that have oxidized to a slightly darker tone. A terrific image with a lovely landscape setting.
