Comments - Handsome triptych depicting boats under Ryogoku Bridge on a summer night. In the pleasure boat at left, two beauties play a hand game called ken, smiling and laughing as they gesture with their hands. Their tall wooden geta sandals are kicked off in the front of the boat, and a large paper lantern glows softly beneath the cabin roof. At right, a man in another boat dries himself with a towel as he watches the women. The large wooden pilings of the bridge frame the scene, the surface of the water gently rippling. A terrific composition and a great image of a favorite summer activity to escape the heat of the city.
