Courtesan and Kamuro Strolling, 1869

Comments - Attractive portrait of a high-ranking courtesan and her two young kamuro or child apprentices strolling through a busy street lined with teahouses and shops. She wears a striking outer kimono featuring a folding fan with a peony on top and flowing red hair, both worn as part of a lion dancer's costume, tied with a blue obi with a design of stylized waves. The girls wear matching robes, and one carries a parcel wrapped in green cloud print cloth. The ocean can be seen in the distance, ships dotting the water and mountains along the horizon. A lovely image with beautiful detail and a handsome setting.

Artist - Kunisada II (1823 - 1880)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 5/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. A few small holes, repaired. Slight toning, soiling, and creasing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
