Series; Sketches of Famous Places in Japan

Uedo Mokuhanga printing

Sketches of Famous Places in Japan - In the early 1960s, the publisher Hamamatsu-Do (Doi) re-released a group of classic shin-hanga landscapes by Hasui and Koitsu under the series title "Sketches of Famous Places in Japan." Using the original blocks, Hamamatsu-Do (Doi) printed the designs, which were also distributed by the publisher Oedo Mokuhansha. The series was produced in a limited edition of 200 sets of 28 subjects, very finely printed and beautifully colored. A terrific opportunity to collect a lovely shin-hanga design.

Uedo Mokuhanga printing - This print is from a special edition printing of shin-hanga landscape masterworks from the artists Hasui and Koitsu printed by the publisher Uedo Mokuhanga. In the early 1960s Uedo Mokuhanga re-released a set of twenty-seven famous shin-hanga landscape prints. These beautiful designs were printed from the original blocks and are a nice opportunity to collect some of the most stunning landscapes of the shin-hanga period.

Teahouse, 1935 - Beautiful image of two geisha at the entrance to a teahouse. Light spills from the open doorway, casting a rosy glow out on the street. The silhouette of a beauty can be seen in the upper story shoji window. A lovely print with handsome architectural detail and attractive color.

Signed - Koitsu with red artist's seal "Shinsei" (genuine)

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Paper remnants or thinning on reverse at two points on right edge from original publisher mounting. A few prints have a couple light creases at edges. Please see photos for details. Very nice overall.
