Hachiman Taro Yoshiie on Horseback at Nakoso Barrier, 1876 - Fine portrait of the young warrior Minamoto no Yoshiie, also known as "Hachiman Taro," which means "Eldest Son of the God of War," riding a dappled horse near the Nakoso Barrier. He wears armor and carries a bow, the quiver of arrows at his back wrapped in blue and white cloth. A retainer follows alongside him, a pole arm resting over his shoulder. Cherry trees covered with delicate pink blossoms frame a view of the fenced barrier at upper right. An attractive design, nicely composed and colored with fine detail in armor and horse equipment, including touches of burnishing in the armor and faint embossing in the blossoms.
