Geisha Koman and Laborer, 1856

Comments - Interesting double portrait from the kabuki play "Godairiki Koi No Fujime." In the foreground, the geisha Koman grins happily as she throws her hand out to the side. She wears a tie-dyed kimono with a black collar over a red under robe with a tie-dyed collar, her hair pulled back into a smooth bun adorned with a lacquer comb, a floral ornament, a hairpins and ribbons. Behind her, Igami No Gonda grimaces as he carries a covered wooden bucket under his arm, biting his lower lip. He wears a blue and white checked kimono, a dotted towel knotted about his forehead. Nice expressive figures.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Slight separation at end of vertical fold at right edge, repaired. Slight soiling, slight rubbing at edges, a few light creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
