Series; Women's Activities of the Tokugawa Era

Viewing an Iris Garden - Lovely Chikanobu scene of beauties visiting an iris garden. The woman at right kneels down to cut a large lavender blossom, holding the end of her kimono sleeve in her mouth to keep it from getting wet. The young girl in the center smiles and gestures towards her, dressed in a bright pink robe patterned with flowers and small tied-dyed hat shapes. The standing beauty wears a kimono shaded from tan to white to pale lavender, printed with tie-dyed leaves and delicate white fronds. Iris blossoms in yellow and variegated purple with slender green leaves flank the wooden walkway, with paler flowers dotting the water in the distance. A charming summer design, beautifully printed with burnishing in the hair and embossing in the white kimono trim.
