Original Meiji era Japanese Woodblock Print
Japanese Troops under Fire

Comments - Interesting image from the Sino-Japanese War of Japanese troops making their way through a snowy valley when they come under fire from the enemy. Shots streak across the scene leaving orange trails, while shells explode in bursts of smoke in the night sky at left. In the center, a dismounted soldier holds the reins of his white horse, while an officer atop a brown horse reaches over to his companion's saddlebag. In the trees at left, a few met watch and gesture toward the enemy position. A heavy snow blankets the trees, and a full moon shines pale yellow in the sky. A handsome design.
