Original Eisen (1790 - 1848) Japanese Woodblock Print
Cherry Blossoms at Nakana-cho, circa 1830 - 1835

Comments - Handsome depiction of three elegant courtesans strolling along the Nakana-cho in the Yoshiwara. The beauty in the left wears a black kimono with a fierce dragon on it, tied with an obi depicting a tiger prowling through a bamboo forest. The woman in the center is dressed in an outer robe featuring a lion and a waterfall, while the courtesan at right has a "straw raincoat" turtle with a mossy tail on her kimono, a sign of longevity. The low fence behind them encloses a garden filled with blossoming cherry trees and flowering shrubs. A wonderful Edo era beauty triptych.

Artist - Eisen (1790 - 1848)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 28 7/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. Slight paper remnants on reverse from previous backing. A few small holes, tiny loss at edge, repaired. Light toning, slight soiling, slight creasing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
