Encounter on a Bridge

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a man encountering a couple on a bridge at night. He leans forward holding his lantern up, but the couple tries to hide their identity from him, the man thrusting his umbrella up while the beauty raises her sleeve and turns her head away. The couple wears matching blue and tan striped kimono tied with black obi, and white cloths over their heads. Behind the bridge railing, the masts of ships anchored in the harbor for the evening can be seen. Nice expressive figures with a handsome setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)
