The Modern Genji Visits the Rokujo Mansion, 1856

Comments - Beautiful spring scene from the "Wakana" chapter of the famous "Tale of Genji," which takes place at Genji's Rokujo mansion. Cherry blossoms extend over the black fence and the massive Rokuju Mansion extends beyond the blossoms into the distance. At right, Genji's wife, the Third Princess, stands on a verandah watching Genji arrive while her maid crouches beside her. She smiles shyly, holding her kimono sleeve to her mouth as she looks down at the young genji arriving at the gate. A terrific triptych that would make a lovely display. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 29 3/4" + top margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. A few small holes repaired from reverse. A couple light spots. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
