April: The First Bonito Catch from Nihonbashi Bridge - Terrific design of beauties and laborers walking across the Nihon Bridge in April. The men carry baskets and wooden tubs filled with the year's first catch of bonito, a highly prized delicacy believed to extend one's lifespan. The women are dressed in colorful kimono and carry blue umbrellas, one pausing to look back over her shoulder. The rooftops of the city spread out into the distance, with Mt. Fuji rising above low-lying clouds. A great composition with the structure of the bridge beautifully framing the landscape view. A fantastic image from this rare Hiroshige series.

Artist - Hiroshige (1797 - 1858)

Image Size - 13 1/4" x 8 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Small loss at corner, stitching holes at left edge from previous binding, thinning spots at edges, repaired. Slight soiling, rubbing, and creasing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
