Street Knight in a Bird Kimono, 1865

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of an otokodate or street knight wearing a striking kimono patterned with birds. A crane in flight appears over the shoulders, with sparrows and swallow on the sleeve at left, and descending geese at lower right. He stares ahead with a sullen expression, his brows furrowed, holding the towel draped around his shoulders with one hand. Nicely detailed with fine line work in the hair, embossing in the crane's feathers, and the towel, and bokashi shading in the background.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14" x 9 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Backed with paper. A few small wormholes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few faint creases, paper slightly curled. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
