Illustration of Women's Manners and Customs, 1890

Comments - Charming triptych illustrating a variety of women's customs and manners. In the back room at right, a beauty conducts a traditional tea ceremony, carefully pouring a dipper of water to fill the tea bowl as her guests sit quietly watching. In the center, two women and a young girl are engaged in sewing, the floor spread with lengths of cloth, rulers, and a pair of scissors, alongside a sewing chest topped with a pincushion. At left, a beauty carries a tobacco set, smiling as she looks back over her shoulder, and in a distant room, two women arrange flowers. Stepping stones lead across a courtyard garden with a flowering cherry tree adding an attractive spring touch. A handsome design with lovely color and detail, not often seen.
