The White Surcoat

Series; New Patterns of Brocade Woven in Utamaro Style

The White Surcoat - Fantastic portrait by Utamaro showing a young beauty in an elegant white outer kimono. She kneels on the floor, the fabric swirling around her as she pulls the robe closed. The white kimono is trimmed with a plum tie-dyed print, worn over a red checked under robe tied with a green and white dotted obi. A lovely combination of soft colors and patterns in this attractive design. Detailed with embossing in the folds of the kimono and white mica on the collar of the under robe.

Artist - Utamaro (1750 - 1806)

Image Size - 15" x 10" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight paper remnants and thinning on reverse at corners from previous mounting. Toning, very slight soiling, a few light creases near edge. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
