Series; The Ichikawa Line of Actors

The Ichikawa Line of Actors - Interesting Taisho era kabuki series published in 1921 based on an earlier Meiji series by Yoshiiku depicting nine generations of the Ichikawa Danjuro line. These handsome portraits are beautifully printed with crisp line work and rich color, and many feature deluxe treatments such as burnishing, embossing, or a dusting of mica. The images have an interesting format, with the background behind the circular inset giving the illusion of a curling sheet of paper, with a verse next to the portrait, and text boxes below. The bottom border features the three concentric rice measure crest of the Ichikawa Danjuro line. A nice series commemorating this famous line of kabuki actors.

Artist - 20th century era artist (not read)

Image Size - 11 3/8" x 8 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight paper remnants or thinning on reverse at corners from previous mounting, a few light creases at edges. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
