Enjoying a Pleasure Boat Ride, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Beautiful triptych depicting beauties enjoying a ride in a pleasure boat in spring. In the front of the large ship, a beauty performs a dance, gracefully gesturing with her fan as musicians accompany her on shamisen. A princess sits on a cushion in the center of the cabin, surrounded by ladies-in-waiting and guest, who smile happily as they listen to the music. At far right, a large lacquer tray holds dishes of food and a tobacco set rests nearby. Laborers lounge atop the cabin, wearing informal summer kimono over black undergarments, some of the men drying themselves with towels. On the far shore, cherry trees covered with white blossoms can be seen beneath the darkening sky as evening falls. A terrific design, beautifully color and detailed.
