Series; Shiranami Gonin Otoko, 1874
Shiranami Gonin Otoko - Handsome design from a kabuki series featuring portraits of the "Shiranami Gonin Otoko," or "Five Men of the White Waves." These otokodate or street knights were actually gang of thieves, and the popular heroes of a kabuki play of the same name. Each half-length figure wears a purple kimono with a bold pattern, including an anchor, roosters fighting, a snake and lute, a magic fox, and a falcon. The faces are individualized and expressive, and each man has a different hairstyle. A great actor series by Ginko.
