Series; Newly Woven Brocades: Musashi Beauties, 1883

Beauty Looking into a Mirror - Interesting portrait of a beauty leaning forward with her elbows on a makeup chest as she looks at her reflection in a mirror. Her hair is rather disheveled, with loose wisps framing her face, and a toothpick extends from the corner of her mouth. She wears a red tie-dyed kimono trimmed with a blue and gray check, a black obi that reverses to a stripe pattern wrapped loosely about her waist. Bowls sit on the deep windowsill above, and a robe hangs over the edge of a screen at right. Beautifully detailed with burnishing in the black obi, the mirror back, and the black bowl, with fine simulated wood grain on the makeup chest.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 1/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Loss at left edge, thinning along one crease, repaired. Creasing, slight soiling, slight paper remnants at left edge, rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
