Samurai in an Iris Garden, 1862

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene of two samurai in an iris garden. The fellow at left grabs hold of a flowering plant with an angry grimace as he kneel on the wooden walkway over the water, clutching a letter in his other hand. The young samurai at right smiles happily, unaware of his companion's unhappiness. He wears a geometric print kamishimo over a tan kimono with medallions on the sleeves, and chunky wooden sandals. The actor at left is Nakamura Shikan IV. Nice expressive figures in an attractive natural setting.

Artist - Fusatane (active circa 1850 - 1870)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 19" + margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Two separate panels. Thinning at edge, repaired. Slight paper remnants at edges, slight soiling, a few light creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
