Beauties of the Pleasure Quarters Viewing Snow: Oyodo of the Kado-Ebiya

Comments - Attractive portrait of the courtesan Oyodo of the Kado-Ebiya and her kamuro or child apprentice enjoying a snowy winter day. She wears a green outer robe patterned with floral medallions and bordered with rows of black brocade. Her red under robe is tied with a red obi featuring a swirling yellow clouds and a circle of sacred jewels. Her hair is pulled back into two large loops, adorned with hairpins decorated with paulownia blossoms and leaves. The young girl waits behind her, lifting the hem of her heavy robe. They stand on a porch overlooking a garden, with a snow-covered fence and stone lantern at right, and a blossoming plum tree framing the gray sky above. A lovely design, nicely detailed.

Artist - Sadahide (1807 - 1873)

Image Size - 14 1/2" x 9 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. A few tiny losses at edge, a few holes, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
