Series; One Hundred Views of Famous Places in the Provinces

Ama no Hashidate, Tango Province, 1859 - Terrific bird's eye view of the Bay of Miyazu and the "Ama no Hashidate," a famous narrow peninsula covered in pine trees. Considered one of the most beautiful seaside views in Japan, Ama no Hashidate can be translated as "Passage to Heaven" or "Bridge to Heaven." A flock of geese flies across the full moon glowing softly in the sky, the birds descending for the evening. Tiny sails dot the water and houses are nestled along the shore in the twilight. A striking design with lovely color and fantastic bokashi shading in the deep blue water and sky. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.
