Viewing Plum Blossoms, 1891

Series; Women's Activities of the Tokugawa Era

Viewing Plum Blossoms, 1891 - Charming scene of upper-class beauties viewing the first plum blossoms of spring, the ground still covered with snow. The woman in the center carries a small twig broom to brush away the snow from their path. She turns her head away and raises her sleeve protectively as a few clumps of snow slide from the branch overhead. Beautiful color and detail in the elegant kimono fabrics, with embossing on the white kimono trim. A lovely triptych.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 14" x 28 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three attached panels. Horizontal folds, two vertical folds. Paper remnants on reverse at left edge from previous mounting. A few small holes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
