The Ghost of Wicked Genta Yoshihira Attacking Namba Jiro at Nunobiki Waterfall, No. 19 - Boys fought alongside men in the bitter wars between the Taira and the Minamoto clans. Minamoto no Yoshihira was a fierce young warrior who fought in Kamakura and Kyoto. He was captured in Kyoto by the Taira and his immediate execution was ordered. He was taken off by Namba no Jiro and Namba quickly cut off his head. Immediately after the execution, Yoshihira’s body sprang into the air and took the form of the thunder god. A violent thunderstorm rocked the sky and Namba was killed in an explosive flash of lightning. This incredible print illustrates Yoshihira’s ghost, his face contorted with rage, in a swirling maelstrom of clouds. A great dramatic design.
