New Year in the Yoshiwara

Comments - Attractive image of elegantly dressed courtesans strolling through the Yoshiwara at New Year's. The beauty in the center wears a white kimono patterned with folding fans and plum blossoms, tied with a light blue obi with swirling water currents and circular phoenix motifs. She is accompanied by her two kamuro or child apprentices, one carrying a decorative battledore for a holiday game similar to badminton. Traditional New Year's decorations of pine and bamboo can be seen at right. A charming design with beautiful embossed detail in the white kimono.

Artist - Eishi (1756 - 1829)

Image Size - 10" x 14 1/4"+ margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Paper remnants on reverse at top corners from previous mounting. A few faint indented marks and light creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
