Comments - Terrific five-panel Osaka kabuki print depicting five warriors on a dark night. In the second panel from the left, a nobleman glares angrily at his neighbor as he holds out a red cloth banner. The sleeves of his geometric print outer kimono are pushed down to the waist, worn over a red kimono patterned with splashing waves and clouds, a black robe with a lozenge and flower design, purple pants in the suit of armor. In the second panel from the right, a monk wearing very tall wooden geta clogs with a single "tooth" called "tengu-geta" stares over his shoulder at a young samurai posing next to a boat. The monk wears a red robe over a gray kimono edged with purple and red print trim, and grips a rustic walking stick made of twisted wood, Wonderful, expressive figures with lively color and fine detail in the clothing, in an atmospheric setting. Includes touches of burnishing.
